ETJ Ishikawa Group Workshop "Show and Tell"

Dear English teachers,

ETJ Ishikawa Group is going to hold its 23rd workshop on Sunday, June 19 with two experienced and certified teachers as guest speakers. It is going to be a very friendly gathering where everybody can share teaching ideas and learn from one another. Non-ETJ members are welcome!

Presenters: Carla Curry and Nagwa Fekri 

Presentation 1 "Giving a Hand" by Carla Curry
Summary:This presentation offers a couple of activities that need little preparation time and can be used with many different age groups and abilities.  As the title says, the activities focus on hands.
Bio:Carla Curry studied TESOL at the University of Washington and is now working at several universities in Kanazawa.  She is also teaching students of all ages at her own private school.

Presentation 2: "Learning a Foreign Language in a Few Hours" by Nagwa Fekri
Summary: Nagwa will share some of the practical ideas she has been using for her students on how kids survive learning a very new language for lessons that are only once a week.
Bio: Nagwa, who holds a master's degree in chemical engineering, taught English as an EAA for a year at several Kanazawa elementary schools in 2003. She then started teaching English with a children conversational school(SEIHA), a national company with classrooms everywhere in Japan. Nagwa has been teaching children and training teachers. She has also been in charge of administrative duties. She teaches varieties of levels and ages from 6 month-old babies to teenagers, besides the company's international preschool. 

After the presentations, each participant will have an opportunity to share his/her own activity ideas or materials in small groups. 

We will also have a tea break where we can all enjoy chatting and networking.

David Paul's Seminar on Sunday, June 26

児童英語教育の先駆者でETJ(日本英語教師の会)の創設者、デイビッド・ポール氏が6月26日(日)、金沢にて児童英語教育についてのセミナーを実施します。6時間以上の本格的トレーニングで、子どもを中心とした指導法についての理論と実践を学び、修了書を受けることができます。

David Paul, the founder of ETJ, is doing a one-day certificate course in teaching English to Children in Kanazawa on Sunday, May 15. This is a great opportunity for both experienced and new teachers to learn/review some theories in psychology and Teaching English as a Foreign Language and to expand activity repertoire. 

I personally would like to recommend this session to you - I attended this course several years ago, and it has changed the way I interact with children in class in a major way.
